R. Dominic Ross
Postdoctoral Researcher, Materials Science Division, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
I was born and raised in the Columbus, OH area. For college I moved up the road to attend The Ohio State University, where I conducted undergraduate research with Professor Josh Goldberger on the synthesis and electrochemical properties of Zintl phases. I also spent the summer of 2017 at Colorado State University as an NSF REU student working with Professor Justin Sambur on electrochromic materials. After graduating from OSU in 2018 I moved to Madison, WI to start my graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the supervision of Professor Song Jin. I focused on developing structure property-relationships of electrocatalysts for the two-electron oxygen reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide using a combination of electrochemical techniques and solid-state materials characterization, and developed an interest on using in situ and operando methods to understand complex electrocatalytic reaction pathways. After finishing my PhD in the summer of 2023, I started a postdoctoral position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Materials for Energy and Climate Security group, where I am applying fundamental electrochemical and materials principles to the new challenges in the electrochemical reactive capture and conversion of carbon dioxide.
